You Can Send Smiles with a Donation to Dog Tags for Kids

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Sad ChildImagine you are a child and your parent is deployed in the military.

Now imagine you get a package from that parent with your very own dog tag,

With Love from Mom or Dad.”

This is the Mission of Dog Tags for Kids, to help provide something that links the child to the parent overseas.

Dog Tags for Kids supply for FREE specially engraved Dog Tags to service members that can be sent home to their children and link their deployed parents.

You can donate directly to this organization on the Dog Tags for Kids Link Children with Their Deployed Parents lens.

I recently donated to Dog Tags for Kids after I made the lens (to test out Squidoo’s new Donations Module,) and received the following message with my confirmation note:

For every $25 donation, we send 50 Dog Tags for Kids to troops in most harms way.

If you think about it, that is 150 smiles or more! One from the soldier in some horrid place and one from the child who receives this gift from so far away and one or more from the family members who see the smile on that child’s face as he holds this gift of love.

Our project is in serious jeopardy of having to be discontinued due to lack of resources so your donation came at a wonderful time.

Thank you again for helping us to continue to deliver these Dog Tags for Kids.

Send Smiles from the Troops to their Kids

Proud Children with their Dog TagsFor $5.00 you can send two Dog Tags, less the price of two specialty coffees.

I can’t imagine how hard it is for the children of those who have been deployed.

Dog Tags for Kids supplies a special link between the parent serving and the child left behind.

Where else does 100% of Your Donation Deliver a Smile?

P.S. The Dog Tags for Kids (the other lens) was Lens of the Day on September 15, 2008. This is a great way to help spread the news.

Make a Lens for Charity – Your Good Deed on 9/11

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

You can do something good today and Join the Squidoo Activist My Good Deed Charity Challenge for 9/11. It is simple to participate, just make a lens to benefit any of your favorite charities and add it to the My Good Deed Plexo.

My contribution was to create a lens that benefits Dog Tags for Kids, Dog Tags for Kids Link Children with Their Deployed Parents.

Dog Tags for Kids LogoDog Tags for Kids is a nonprofit organization created to show support for the troops and their families. I felt it was an appropriate charity to support, since these families are being separated as a result of 9/11.

Dog Tags for Kids supplying for FREE specially engraved Dog Tags to service members that can be sent home to their children and link their deployed parents.

I used the new Donations Module, so you can make a direction donation to their cause. I tested it out with my own donation from last month’s Squidoo earnings.

The lens also looks at how linking objects or personal symbols can be used to help people cope during times of loss or in this case time of separation.
