International Day of Peace Since 1981 the United Nations and people around the world have celebrated the International Day of Peace. This holiday was established for “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and people.”

This year the United Nations is encouraging people around the world to send text messages for peace on or before 21 September.

In the US:

Messages collected by the UN will be presented to world leaders gathering in New York for the 63rd General Assembly from 23 September.

For this day, let us listen to the words of Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General United Nations

On 21 September, the International Day of Peace, I call on world leaders and peoples around the world to join forces against conflict, poverty and hunger, and for all human rights for all.
